Sarah Plays Bass for Geri

"I just got a phone call from an agent who said Geri needed a bassist!"

Ex spice girl Geri Halliwell needed a bassist for her new video "Scream if you Wanna go Faster" and Sarah fitted the bill.

Back in Spain Again...

The last time Sarah was in Spain was to shoot the Bugs video for Hepburn. She found herself playing bass on top of a windy petrol station roof. This time around Sarah got an all expenses paid trip to a plush hotel and shared the shade of a palm tree with Ginger herself.

"I just got a phone call from an agent who said Geri needed a bassist! I said yes straight away! Then he mentioned that he was looking for a girl guitarist too." Sarah says. "I said, 'oh know one!'"

Lisa Lister, Hepburn's former guitarist, phoned Sarah an hour later. "Sarah! What have you done to me!!"

The two appear in the video as Halliwell's black-clad band while Halliwell sings on stage. At the very last minute, Sarah almost didn't appear. "She's blonde!" Halliwell's staff exclaimed in horror. "Geri's the only blonde!!"

You could be forgiven for thinking this was a primadonna popstar fit, but you'd be wrong. "It's part of the plot," Sarah explains. "It's bad Geri versus good Geri. We're part of bad Geri's band and we're all dressed in black. Good Geri arrives on a rocket and kicks bad Geri's ass."

"I got dressed up in a black dress, a big black wig and a bow, and huge black sunglasses. We all looked quite funny." No kidding. I've seen the pictures.

"Lisa and I had a chance to catch up. It was good fun. My boyfriend surprised me and got a last minute flight and turned up at my hotel in the middle of the night after the shoot, arriving at totally the wrong airport and getting a taxi to drive halfway down the coast... The things you do for love!! We had a fantastic time. We all got horribly sunburnt and I burned the soles of my feet on the sand it was so hot!"

And what was Halliwell like? "She came and shared the shade of a palm tree with me during the shoot, she seems really nice. She was quite friendly and funny on set. She's very honest and she says what she thinks."

Sarah was pretty pleased with the whole adventure. When I asked her about the final cut of Halliwell's video she just laughs. "There's a great shot of Lisa at the start. You can see us in the background all the way through... But if you didn't know it was us, you really wouldn't recognise us!"
